I was amazed by this "young" pair in managing a 2.5 acre farm in Honomu, Hawai'i. [:)] Last July, I was there for the pohä but there were a lot of other interesting tropical fruit and vegetables like sapote, sour sap, tobacco, etc.

People like to talk about diversified family farms, yet there's also the reality of trying to market small quantities of fruit and vegetables. Betty would drive perhaps more than 10 miles to sell her vegetables to a store in Hilo, and make $5-10 on a lucky day. Yet another benefit is that she gets to meet her friends, and have a coffee and pastry while in town.
