| yee | Aloha, Due to perhaps a corrupt file or errant routine, the database has been restored to a 7/22/03 version. Normally, backups are made every evening. However, I had been on a trip to Hilo and was unable to make backups between 7/23/03 and 7/25/03. Thus the 7/22/03 backup. Postings and/or new members between 7/23 and 7/25 were lost. Please repost or re-register if you were affected. Sorry about this inconvenience. Because of this incident, we welcome your suggestions or ideas on ways prevent its recurrence. Probably when on trips I will do the normal back up of the database on another server. Mahalo, Jonathan |
| yee | Actually I found the problem. And I didn't need to restore afterall! Funny how that's learned after the fact. [B)] Apparently my virtual server was upgraded on July 22 and the write permissions were changed on some of the directories. This could have been prevented if the subscribers were sent advisories of the upgrade and the changes that were planned. Then I wouldn't have had to take the drastic action restoring to an older database. Probably though it was a good mistake and learning experience - I think I'd make a better administrator now. | yee | Experience problems with the forum recently? It was probably the power outage yesterday (8-14-03) affecting the NE America. We're in Hawai'i yet the kava forum has to rely on a virtual server there. Here's what they said:

| yee | System Status for January 14-16, 2004. Slowed serviced due to our ISP and electric utility company. Our ISP for our East Honolulu office has been out for the last two days apparently due to the heavy winds. Apparently the Hawaiian Electric Company (our local electric utility) has been neglecting proper maintenance and/or design of their wood poles and a lot of utility poles fell. However, we're on backup (dial-up) and have been processing your orders albeit at slower rate. We expect a return to normal service soon (hopefully by afternoon today). We'll keep you updated.
