my favorite way
lmitch Basically it is traditional method, but I use silk bags to strain. I mix kava and 2 cups of water in bowl, use a hand blender to mix throughly. I then pour concentrate in a big plastic cup lined with silk bag. I squeeze out liquid, and then place silk bag with root back in bowl, and then add 1 cup of water, massage, repeat. And repeat. (depending on how much kava originally placed in bag. I finish with about 40 oz of drink, but I am not done yet. The last steps include placing a SMALL amount of Lemon Crystal Light(it MUST be sugarfree since it seems the sugar dissolved in water limits the suspension of kava in water.) The point is NOT to make it taste like lemon at all, but it hides the bitter aftertaste. Small amounts make it taste more like traditional drink with no bitterness. I then consume it chilled. Remember, use sugar free, and too little is much better than too much! Enjoy!
lmitch I forgot to mention that each time I rinse the kava, I pour the existing product into a third container so when I add the cup of rinsing water, that is all there is with the kava bag in the mixing bowl. Enjoy.
drinkofpeace My recipe is double up fijian kava amounts(1-1/2 cups), strain kava through cloth and add Parrot Bay from Captain Morgan's, add a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg along with 3 tablespoons of honey, use ice in large mixing bowl. The coconut rum takes the edge of bitterness away and makes it taste like a tropical drink similar to a toasted almond.-Cheers
jposer I use HOT water with my kava, stir it with a spoon, really, really fast in a glass, and then push it real hard through an ordinary kitchen strainer. I then use the pulp to do it again with some more hot water, as I don't want to waste those kavalactones. Then I store it in the refrigerator or add ice, as I find that it taste much better when it is really, really cold. Occasionally, I will add a little lemon juice and artificial sweetener to flavor it, more recently, I am actually developing a taste for it plain. Yes, I really am!!! [:)]
