I hate milk, what can I do???
Bassadelic Well I used to drink milk, and now I dont at all, I wont bother explaining why, but lets just say milk is not an option Back when milk was my friend , I got some 'Awa Mahakea kava from a friend who got it from kickbackwithkava.com and after trying that kava in MILK!!!! I feel in love with kava Until I used THAT KIND OF KAVA , with MILK all my kava experiments sucked!!!!!!! So.............lechin???? its like soy fat or something right??? how much does it increase the effects??? also some people talk of mixing rum, well I dont want to do that, but how easy is it to make an extract??? although what I hope to hear is that lechtin will make a strong drink, I tried the same Kava without milk the other day and it wasent the same help me out here KAVA experts! please(this is my first post!) the more you increase the fear of drugs, crime, welfare mothers, and aliens, the more you control all the people--Noam Chomsky
yee This looks like an effectiveness and taste issue... I tend to use a lighter brew - a proportion of 1 tablespoon of pounded powdered kava to 8 fluid ounces of water - put into a high speed vitamixer, then strained with a fine sieve (silkscreen available at an arts supply or our store). And as with a lot of drinks, I chill it before drinking. Coconut milk or soy milk render more of the KLs out than just water, but then you have to deal with that taste, and the liquid is heavy or gravy-like. Once you start on that path you'd probably add other things like pineapple juice, spices, etc., like what one of the chefs did in making a kava bisque at the kava festival. It's very involved, however, it did take a top score for taste. A start would be to do an effective job at preparing the beverage. Some use hot water, soak the kava in water overnight in a refridgerator, blenders/vitamixers, or massage the kava for a length of time in a seive in water until say the seive containing kava no longer feels "greasy." Whatever the method, serving a chilled drink is what you'll find most people liking. I'm guessing it's psychological - ideas perhaps of freshness, cooling, the extra care taken to chill the beverage... maybe less taste. [:)] Extraction, i.e., concentration methods through use of solvents, is possible and there are probably some sites detailing herbal extractions. The shining star appears to be CO2 extraction, which can hardly be done in a homemaker's kitchen. Extracts are not a regular part of my consumption due to cost and context. For me kava is mostly a social drink. I like to prepare and drink kava with a group of friends to enjoy the time with and talk story together... I think this is also why a kava bar can work. Bassadelic I was told that I might have some luck with rice milk [?] the more you increase the fear of drugs, crime, welfare mothers, and aliens, the more you control all the people--Noam Chomsky
yee The brands of rice milk like Amazake and Eden (blend w/soy) have a sweet flavor. They're also lighter tasting and less thick than coconut milk and, like soy, can be used mixed with the kava. The taste with the soy, rice, and coconut milks seem to be an individual preference. I find that this kind of experiment naturally leads to the addition of other ingredients. Bassadelic will rice milk make a drink just as strong as cow milk??? rice , milk , oil , and litchen sound good??? the more you increase the fear of drugs, crime, welfare mothers, and aliens, the more you control all the people--Noam Chomsky
yee Presumably since KLs are fat-soluble if you could make an equivalent fat content of the successful cow's milk you were using then you should come up with the same results of potency with all else the same. This is theory. A lab test could done for $150+ (say HPLC) to confirm this, or maybe you do a taste/effect comparison. Aloha, Jonathan Hawaiian Kava Center, LLC http://hawaiiankava.com
