Request: Ideas for Kava Festival tasting event
yee I'm thinking of putting together a questionaire/survey for the kava tasting event in the kitchen. Or I'll be happy to collaborate with anybody on it if they're interested... Or has anybody made one up yet? =) Perhaps to gain some meaningful results, please suggest any criteria or format you feel could be included - e.g., a quality and its corresponding degree, type of questions. Hopefully with a broad, general public input, we can learn what people appreciate, the language they use in describing it, and perhaps how we can achieve a better market acceptance. Bring some of your own kava (Hawaiian, Fiji, Tongan, etc.) too if you're interested in seeing what the public thinks of it. We'll have volunteers distributing the kava and questionaires, and you're welcome to help monitor the event. Some things suggested by Jerry Konanui include: 1. Flavor or smoothness 2. Strength 3. Aroma 4. Color 5. Fresh vs. dried 6. Preparation Perhaps these can also be elaborated upon in your own opinion on how these items matter or can be defined. With further input, maybe from the panel, hopefully this can submitted for public review and understanding. The results of the questionaire/survey will be published here. The Hawaii Pacific Kava Festival will be held on Saturday 4 Oct. 2003 at Lyon, Honolulu, HI. (See also the forum above, Hawai'i Pacific Islands Kava Festival (Lyon).) Rod I guess my thoughts would be regarding a questionnaire would be related to the effects. Dose Maybe some Likert Scale questions such as: Effects on the head Soporific Effects Sense of well being Sense of sociability Soporific effects Effects on the body Muscle relaxant effects Pain relief Motor skills Diuretic effects Overall Score (among favorites) Maybe an open-ended question or two that might give the respondent a chance to express general opinions.
yee Mahalo, Rod. Your formalization proposal of the Likert Scale is very interesting. And the open-ended questioning seems great for capturing everything else. The fact there is even a name for this scale is interesting and was helpful. I found a related link: http://www.cultsock.ndirect.co.uk/MUHome/cshtml/psy/likert.html I will be focusing on using your suggestion with maybe a breakdown of the categories into detailed or specific aspects if practical. yee This is the actual survey form we used: http://iliahi.com/kavafestival/Sample%20evaluation.pdf Obviously it could be better developed. But that's what I had to show for after getting up 3 am this morning to finally assemble it. Over 500 forms were filled-out and are now sitting in my van, along with my other stuff from the festival. The results will be posted in the Hawaiian Kava Forum (here at http://kavaforum.org) as soon as they are tabulated and analyzed. Hopefully within the month. For next years event we hope to have a refined or improved form. Suggestions are welcome. Mahalo, Jonathan Hawaiian Kava Center, LLC http://hawaiiankava.com
