Hina Hina or Pele's Hair is a species of moss that
is fun to grow and has esthetic appeal. Its strands have three
legs, with one leg continuing on to form the length of a strand.
This pattern is repeated throughout.
The
color is a light whitish green (turns a darker shade when wet).
Over time and with proper care, the strand, when combined with
other separate strands, grows long and bushy - like a beard.
One of many uses of hina hina is for use in lei making. Several long strands are often gathered to gather to form an open-ended living lei. The result is dramatic, pleasing, and very distinguishing. Another use is to provide an esthetic presence to the home or office environment. It appears to do well under an any office environment with lights so it's not limited to the tropics (it'll grow on the "mainland").
Recommended care includes daily mistings of water, occasionally mixed with MiracleGrow to spur lush grow.
At least three strands of approximately 8" are woven together and are sent first-class/priority mail via USPS. Cash, check or money order only. Cost is $2 (includes shipping & handling). Other variations on an order are also possible (bulk quantity).
